MHA: ST report missed a vital point

WE REFER to Thursday's report ('Anti-YOG man may stand in GE'), which gave the impression that Mr Abdul Malik Mohammed Ghazali was arrested by the police for making anti-Youth Olympic Games (YOG) remarks. This is completely wrong. He was arrested for posting public comments that could incite violence and lead to public disorder and a breach of peace, such as his call to burn a government minister. He was not arrested for his views or comments on the YOG. This point seemed to have been lost in the report.

It is a serious offence to instigate violence or injury against another person. It does not matter if his target is a government minister, a journalist or someone from any other profession.

Because the Police wants to charge [or has charged] Abdul Malik, Abdul Malik is now a liability to SDP. Abdul Malik may cause the opposition to lose the entire GRC or SMC.

This is like Tang Liang Hong except that this time the PAP has "proof" that Abdul Malik is a dangerous man just like how TLH is portrayed previously.

In the interest of opposition winning seats, Abdul Malik should let things cool down, don't contest this coming election until next time.

On the contrary, I think Abdul Malik should contest this coming election. I hope Singaporeans know enough of PAP dirty tricks and would not be conned by them this time.
