BEIJING (Reuters) - Those who wish to push for Taiwan's independence risk overturning the "boat of peace" and must be stopped, the main newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party said on Sunday, a day after a historic meeting between China and Taiwan's leaders.

Machiavelli, if he were alive, might think thus - "summit" is only happening because:

1) Pro-independence party looks like going to win by landslide;

2) CCP panick and want to give KMT a helping hand;

3) KMT desperate and though effect on voters of such summit may well be negative the situation is so desperate it has to take a gamble;

4) Therefore this message from CCP is meant not for KMT or pro-independence party, that would be preaching to the coverted or die hard pagans respectively;

5) The message is meant for the Taiwanese voters, something like firing missiles across the straits before elections that led to Ah Bian becoming President, just more "subtle", so the CCP thinks.
