Cavinder Bull named VP of Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group

By MICHELLE QUAH

SENIOR Counsel Cavinder Bull of Drew & Napier has been appointed vice-president of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (Aprag) - a year after he was named deputy chairman of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).

Aprag, established in 2004, is a regional federation of arbitration associations which aims to improve standards and knowledge of international arbitration and represent the Asia-Pacific region in submissions to national and international organisations.

The federation comprises members from about 30 arbitration centres and associations, and is a reflection of the increasing importance of international arbitration in Asia and Australasia.

A highly regarded arbitration practitioner, Mr Bull was appointed deputy chairman of the SIAC last year, taking over from Sundaresh Menon, who is now Singapore's attorney-general.

Mr Bull was appointed senior counsel in 2008 and is actively engaged in international arbitrations as well as in corporate and commercial litigation.

He continues to hold full-time responsibilities as a director of the dispute resolution department at Drew & Napier.

Mr Bull has a first class honours degree in law from Oxford University and a master's degree in law from Harvard Law School which he attended on a Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship. He has also been called to the Bar in Singapore, England and Wales and New York.
