No one knows for sure, but rumors said it was Ho Ching's idea. But, someone at GIC or Temasek - some Jew guy she employed - pitched her the idea .

You all very funny. The casino thing has been pushed forward by the entertainment and tourism industry for many many years. It all took traction ard 2003 after SARS when the govt started looking at alternatives to growing the tourism industry. That old man who owns St James, dunno whathisname, Dennis Foo? was asked by STB to head a committee to evaluate and of course he damn pro casino and the rest is history.

There are many conservative Sporeans out there. They have after all been brought up in a conservative environment where Playboy, Penthouse,...... is banned. Censorship of the media a common thing.
LKY created a victorian society. When he approved the casinos, he went against conservative ideals. I find it ironic that the PAP will probably pay a political price for it.

I think it was way before that......remember back then Yeo Ning Hong was tasked with looking into casinos.......he visited the cruise ships to see their operations.......always accompaning him was Jopie Ong who ran gambling cruises. So it had to be around the 1990s.

We pay them hundreds of millions a year and all they can come out with is casinos. Even Cambodia can come out with such idea and they are paid 'peanuts'

Sorry hor. Singaporeans will be the first ones to pay the full fare for this wicked decision. The number of dysfunctional families and Mrt jumpers will only go up.
It's a case of banning things they don't agree with, e.g. banning Cosmopolitan because they didn't agree with the articals
They mus have learned this from LKY who abused his power to silence his critics .A few years ago someone even tried to ban a PC game because it was "violent". It latter surfaced that the person behind the ban was a mother who found her son spending too much time playing the game.
Only in Spore do you find it ok for LKY to have satellite TV but "lesser mortals" must pay for censored material

Next time, if the same mother catches her son spending too much time playing with himself, hopefully she'll ban his penis.
