Casino Crimes in Singapore
27 Sep 2010 Three to Be Charged For Cheating By Personation at Casino
In three separate cases between May and June this year, Police have arrested three persons, aged between 29 and 42, for attempting to enter/entering the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) Casino with another person's identification documents.
On 17 May 2010, a 29-year-old Singaporean man was detained by the RWS security officers after he was found using his mother’s driving licence to enter the Casino and failing to pay the entry levy. On the same day, a 39-year-old female Permanent Resident was also detained after she tried using another person’s work permit to enter the Casino to avoid paying the entry levy.
On 30 June 2010, a 42-year-old Singaporean man, who was issued with an Exclusion Order by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), was arrested after he was found using another person’s driving licence to enter the Casino.
The three suspects will be charged in Court on 28 September 2010 for the offence of Cheating by Personation under Section 419 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both. Under the Casino Control Act, the two Singaporeans and one PR would also be liable for the offence of failure to pay entry levy or the offence of attempted entry without paying the levy. They shall also be liable for the amount of the entry levy that was not paid.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended the security officers for their vigilance and added that the Police will not hesitate to take stern action against identity thieves and those who attempt to enter the Casinos by impersonation.
