If I recall MM's advice to the Land of the Rising Sun previously was to open up their country to mass immigration in order to boost their population and arrest their declining birth rate, much like what Singapore is doing right now. On hindsight, I believe they they must have thought, thank you for your advice, but we will decide and do what is best for our fellow Japanese.

Yes, you heard it, fellow Japanese.... or in Singapore's case, fellow Singaporean? While the Singapore society is evolving, it is still a pretty young nation. Taking care and nurturing this spirit requires time and effort and is not going to be acvieveable within a few decades. Neverthesess, the opening of mass immigration has to a certain extent, fragment this, making it worse, if not impossible, with the people being brought in, with different values and languages.

With the heightened news coverage of mass immigration for these people that have been brought in, Singaporean are told to accept them welcome them with open arms. Huh??. You mean Singaporean's needs to welcome these people that competes directly with them for their jobs, their children's education in terms of scare resources, in terms of medical benefits. Somehow I still do not undetstand why Singapore still gives out many scholarship to foreigners going by the thousands if not hundred's of thousand dollars, where the PA system only gives out S$360 (please correct if it is more) to the poor Singaporeans. Does Singaporean see this as taking care of their own kind, or is the term Singaporean is just being used, but without substance.

Actually Japan already have a large foreign community living and working in the country. In fact my IT vendor in Japan has about 80% foreign staff(but they are the exception rather then the norm). Many bigger restaurant and hotels also have foreigners working there(mostly PRCs). It's nowhere near the number of FTs we have here of coz but its not that hard to find FTs in Japan these days a t least not as hard as it was 10 years ago

Oh, and that reminds me, Singapore has now a parent's maintenance bill, where filial piety is the main push of it. To put it in another way, they wash their hand clean, the onus is on the children to take care of the parents, which is fine, except for the fact that, if their children are already struggling to make ends meet, because of the depressed wages, what more to speak of to take care of their aged parents.

Today, if Singaporean children aged parents are given millions to work, heck, I would even encourage them not to retire. Its is easy to talk about filial piety, if you are making millions, not when you are making 1k or 1.2k, are that your so called opportuntiy to work?. That is not work, that is hardly enough to survive in Singapore.

Yes, I agree that it is not hard to find FTs in Japan nowadays. It's quite common, in fact, in Tokyo and Osaka, the big cities etc.

Most of them are on permits to work and expatriates status, ie, the companies they worked for sent them there, not mass immigration style, in Singapore, it's welcome all FTs, it's ok, don't bother about the locals, you can replace them if you chose to stay mentality and with this kind of mentality, will the Singapore society not be fragmented?.

The FTs especially the non-PRs are good for Singapore. They come, they work, they pay taxes. When they're no longer able to contribute economically to Singapore, their EP or SP or WP are not renewed and home they go. The lives of each and every other Singaporean is improved by their presence, except for those who lost their economic rent because of the FTs.
