The PAP is going for economic growth at all costs. They don't believe that it equates to treason.

In authoritarian regimes like S'pore under the PAP, the govt views independent labour unions as a source of opposition and a threat to their power. Controlling or suppressing them is a way to maintain political dominance. The PAP will support state-controlled unions to build a base of support and exert influence over the workforce.
