based on the following;

an average housing estate has at least 100,000 people

conservatively most stalls have at least 10 ppl queuing every 15 - 30 mins

typical price $3 per plate chicken rice/or bowl of noodle

the hawker can make 500 X $3 = $1500 per day
X 30 days = $45,000/month
X 12 months = $600,000/year

less rental $3000/month = $36,000/year
less materials costs, workers salary etc...say $50,000

nett still can make a whopping half million wor! not to mention this is only 1 stall, if he open afew stalls can make millions

so in conclusion actually hawker is chin ho tarn rite?

Your scenario is no rest day, no NEA cleaning day, work until you die.

Ehh..How much is that in plates of kway teow :)

If life was that easy then why do I see many chicken rice stalls closing for good:confused:

I see many stalls closing, even chicken rice stalls. Some of them are being replaced by stalls selling more expensive Japanese food.

nowadays a hawker centre will have afew stalls selling the same food like chicken rice, kway teow mee. the muslim stalls all cluster in 1 row selling the same nasi, mee siam, prata

chicken rice are profitable. $2.50 for a small bowl of rice and paper thin few slices of chicken. I feel like I am simply paying $2.50 for the bowl of rice.

exactly. nowadays those fucking foodcourts are selling at $5.50, $6.50 just throw in a piece of vegetable. even the rice portion is diminished. you know $5 you can buy a whole kampong chicken at the market. so those bastards profits are astronomical

I also thought that it was profitable but if you look at the Toa Payoh food court, below the bus interchange. The chicken rice stall is gone. Some stalls have also diversified selling both chicken rice & char siew rice, wanton mee,...

Currently I see chicken rice being sold for $4.50 in some of the malls. Japanese food stalls are more common because of higher profit margin.
