Calm cashier thwarts attempted armed robbery on cash exchange in Birmingham

The thief left the shop empty-handed after the cashier appeared to refuse to hand over any money

An armed thief was left empty-handed when an attempt to steal from a Birmingham money exchange was thwarted by an amazingly calm cashier.

In the footage released by West Midlands Police yesterday, a hooded man is seen entering the Eurochange shop on Birmingham’s Kings Heath High Street on Saturday 28 February.

The man, who is said to be in his twenties, is captured pulling out a black handgun and pointing it at the cashier as she counts money. Get Flash Player

After a short conversation between the two, the hooded man pulls a plastic bag from under his trousers and appears to demand that it is filled with money.

However, the cashier remains unmoved.

Unable to get any money out of the cool cashier, the gunman eventually gets cold feet and exits the shop empty-handed.

According to police, the man is around 5ft 8in tall, clean shaven, with fairly light skin and brown eyes.

PC Kate Watts from Kings Heath Police Station said: “The CCTV captured clear images of the offender and I am confident someone will be able to recognise him.

“I would ask anyone who knows the identity of this man to call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
