Cabby punched by Filipino PR for ‘cutting queue’

A taxi driver got punched in his face several times after being accused of jumping queue at a NTUC FairPrice supermarket located at Yishun.

The brawl left Nadasan Chandra Secharan, a taxi driver, with a fractured jaw.


His attacker, Benedict Policarpio Cortez, 31, punched Secharan in his face several times after an argument broke out in the supermarket.

Secharan was paying for his groceries at the cashier of the supermarket when he realised that he had forgotten to get a bottle of jam, reported The Straits Times.

The 56-year-old then went to grab one and returned to the cashier.

Upon returning to the cashier, he noticed a woman, who is Cortez's wife, mumbling under her breath and glaring at him.

Secharan then proceeded to explain that he was not cutting queue but was told by the woman to shut up.

The duo started arguing and things turned sour when Cortez showed up.

Cortez left the supermarket after taking Secharan's groceries that were already paid for.

Secharan ran after him to retrieve his purchases and that's when things took a turn for the worse.

Cortez became violent and rained punches on Secharan. The latter had to be warded for four days at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for his injuries.

Cortez was put behind bars on Thursday (16 Feb) for a month and ordered to compensate Secharan for his medical fees.

Cortez is a Filipino waiter and a permanent resident of Singapore.

The Pinoy waiter should be charged for robbing the groceries that the taxi driver has already paid for, beside assault. He is clearly making use of the situation as an excuse to rob, hoping to get away scot free after committing a crime.
