A TAXI driver was charged on Thursday with drink driving and causing the death of a pedestrian.

Sukhwindar Singh s/o Teja Singh, 59, is alleged to have driven at the signalised junction of Victoria Street by Jalan Sultan when he had at least 46mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath on March 18 last year. The legal limit is 35mcg.

He is also accused of causing the death of Mr Loo A Ba, 70, through the negligent act of intentionally driving the cab while under the influence of alcohol at 1.54am that day.

Out on a $12,000-bail, he was granted permission to travel to Chennai, India, for about a week from Saturday.

He said he intends to engage a lawyer. The case will be mentioned on July 28.
