Businessman 'adopts' 250 orphans
KOTA BARU: A Chinese philanthropist, who was touched by the plight of 250 Muslim orphans in Kelantan, has taken them in as "adopted children".
The businessman, who only wanted to be known as Datuk Seri Sunny, has pledged to provide the orphans with not only monthly financial assistance, but also ensure that their basic needs were taken care of.
Sunny said he decided to take in the orphans as his own as he sympathised with them and was concerned about their education and future.
"Many of them are poor, unattended to and rely on the public to help them.
"I am not Muslim, but I want to share the spirit of Ramadan by taking the orphans shopping, joining them to break fast and giving them duit Raya."
Some of the orphans, when interviewed, said they were thankful to Sunny and that the duit Raya would help ease their Hari Raya preparations.
