SINGAPORE - The High Court will decide if SBS Transit and its bus driver are liable to pay damages for an injury sustained by a woman whose foot was run over by an SBS bus in March 2010.
Mrs Susan Chan is suing SBS Transit and Lai Tet Chong, the driver involved, for an accident which resulted in her foot being fractured.
Arriving in court in a wheelchair on Wednesday, the 78-year-old said that she was getting ready to board the bus when the incident happened.
In her testimonial, Mrs Chan said she was holding onto the side of the bus to steady herself when the door closed.
She told the court that the bus then started to move off, running over her foot with one of its rear tyres.
She was hospitalised for 80 days as a result of the incident.
While SBS does not deny that the bus ran over her foot, it argues that Mrs Chan had fallen while running after the moving bus.
The transport provider told the court that there was nothing the bus driver could have done to prevent the bus from running over her foot.
A closed-circuit television camera installed on another bus captured footage of the woman falling at the bus bay.
Justice Choo Han Teck is scheduled to visit the bus stop where the accident was said to have happened.
