Burglary suspect dies of heart attack in police station
JOHOR BARU: A burglary suspect died of a heart attack at the Kangkar Pulai police station after he was detained over a break-in at Taman Pulai Utama here early Tuesday morning.
Nusajaya police chief Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said the man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead by the medical officer who arrived at the station about 1.15 am.
"We received a call around midnight about a white Perodua Alza car parked suspiciously in front of a house in Taman Pulai Utama.
"When the police arrived the suspect ran out of the house but was detained after a 500-metre chase," he said here Tuesday.
"He was caught by some passers-by when he tried to get away in a Proton Iswara Aeroback car which was parked in the area. He was breathless and appeared weak at the time," he said.
According to Noor Hashim, the man had an identity card which was reported stolen on June 15 and his thumb was scarred, making it difficult to determine his identity.
He said the man was also suspected of an attempted break-in earlier but was scared off by the owner of the house in the same area and the Perodua Alza was believed to have been stolen in Johor Jaya on Sept 5.
Various stolen goods including a handbag with Chinese currency, car keys, several DVD players, six kilogrammes of birds nest and cartons of cigarettes were found in the car, he said.
"We believe he had an accomplice. We urge members of the public to come forward if they have any information on the case," he said. - Bernama
