While arm and buttock lifts dominated the cosmetic surgery business in 2013, a lesser-known treatment has shot up to popularity.

Buffalo hump removal – the operation that removes the build-up of excessive fat around the neck – has been of little interest up until last year.
In fact, it's seen a 350 per cent rise, according to new research.

The underlying causes of a hump back below the neck are obesity, but it could also be an “unusual side effect of certain mediations”, a spokesperson for WhatClinic.com told the Daily Mail.

“This issue undoubtedly leaves sufferers feeling self-conscious and miserable, especially as it occurs in an area of the body that people don’t usually worry about. A relatively simple surgical procedure can correct the problem, and restore the person’s normal shape.”

Celebrities such as Beyonce and Cameron Diaz have been inspiration for many people going under the knife – after Beyonce’s backside took centre stage in a raunchy new video, Partition, enquiries into buttock lifts more that tripled in the UK last year.

The demand for mini-facelifts dropped by 60 per cent, tummy tucks fell by half, while abdominal etching, aimed at people with just a small amount of fat covering their abs, dropped by almost a fifth.
