Man installed camera in toilet to peep at maid and visitors

AN INDONESIAN maid who chanced upon an unlabelled CD in her employer’s Pasir Ris flat was shocked when she viewed its contents.
From what she saw on the CD, she suspected that someone had planted a video camera in the flat’s kitchen toilet. It was not mentioned in court what exactly she saw.
The woman, aged 25, checked the toilet and found a pinhole camera hidden behind the water heater.
The incident in January prompted her to call the police. Yesterday, her employer Ramshah Mustafa, 47, was jailed for three weeks.
When questioned by police, he admitted to installing the camera to peep at women in the toilet.
Investigations revealed that the pinhole camera was linked wirelessly to a video camera connected to the television set in the master bedroom, and that Ramshah had last watched the maid in the nude in December last year.
Police also found footage on the CD of another woman, 33, who had visited the flat, bathing and using the toilet on three occasions in 2004.
These three offences were taken into consideration by the judge in sentencing. Under the law, the victims cannot be identified.
Asking for leniency, Ramshah, who did not have a lawyer, urged the court to fine him instead as his wife works during the day and there would be no one to look after his young daughter.
For invading the women’s privacy, he could have been jailed for up to a year and/or fined up to $10,000 on each charge.
