BANGKOK: At least six people were killed at a market in a shooting incident in the Thai capital Bangkok on Monday (Jul 28), a police official said.

The number of fatalities includes the gunman who took his own life, Charin Gopatta, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, told Reuters.

"Police are investigating the motive. So far it's a mass shooting," Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok's Bang Sue district where the incident took place, told AFP.

He said the suspect took his own life after the shooting and police were working to identify him, as well as investigating "for any possible link" to the current border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.

Charin Gopatta, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, told Reuters that the number of fatalities includes the gunman who took his own life.

The attack took place at Or Tor Kor Market, a short distance from Chatuchak market, which is a major tourist destination in Bangkok and throngs with visitors every weekend.

Mass shootings are not uncommon in Thailand, where firearms can be obtained relatively easily due to lax gun control enforcement.

Security guards not armed?
I am always at OTK market everytimenI am in BKK to eat at the hawker stalls there. The Thai Yongtaufu is very good there. The CaiPng stall also sells very nice dishes. The braised duck stall sells very nice pig intestines. Last but not least, the Royal Project kopi outlet is air-conditioned and very nice to chill out...

So, that is your fave makan place in BKK. You probably need to arm yourself next time you go BKK. I will probably do so, and have my BKK friend keep my firearm when I am not there.

Only OKT goes to OTK market…
It's a very nice market to visit. Though of course it can't beat Thonburi Seafood Market which a mega huge. OTK market is more accessible by MRT Kamphaeng Phet station...
