這起事件其實是在2010年爆發，兩年之內，中情局多達30名間諜及秘密線人都被大陸給查出，一一處決，重挫美國在中國佈下的情資，當時CIA極力調查抓內鬼，但現在根據美國外交政策雜誌報導，原因很可能是一套通訊系統遭到大陸國安部破解，連上了可以接觸到所有機密人員的情報通訊系統。
