中刀受傷青年姓熊，今午5時許，他與兩名友人在港鐵大埔墟站A1出口對出的連儂隧道附近，向市民派發明日(20日)九龍遊行的宣傳單張，據悉，當時有一名穿黑衫及牛仔褲、手臂有紋身的男子，正在隧道怒氣沖沖地撕牆上的文宣紙，已曾與其他巿民爭執，當他見熊派傳時，更怒火中燒，隨即趨向熊，拔出一把約20厘米長生果刀，揮刀割他的頸。
熊冷不及防，頸中一刀流血，掩着傷口走避，跑到不遠處的雅運道車輛上落處，坐在地上求救。詎料，兇徒仍未罷休，尾隨追至，再用刀襲擊，猛捅熊的腹部浴血，肚被劏開腸臟溢出，市民目擊喝止及報警，兩名女途人嘗試替熊止血。兇徒行兇後走到對面的石壆上，右手猶緊握生果刀，隔馬路斥罵巿民，聲言：「香港廢青聽住，香港係中國嘅香港，邊個搞亂香港，我第一個唔放過佢!」有年長巿民不恥其所為，反怒斥他:「邊個搞亂香港呀，係你呀，拎住把刀斬人!」
兇徒其後持刀登上輛的士逃走，多名市民一度追截，但最終目送的士絕塵而去。救護員接報到場，替不斷呼痛的熊急救包紮，再將他送往沙田威爾斯親王醫院救治，探員到場調查，包括到連儂隧道搜證，期間大批警員包括防暴警戒備，他們戴頭盔及持盾牌，不少市民駐足圍觀。與此同時，兇徒乘的士逃離現場，最後卻到了大埔警署，進入報案室棄刀自首，警方經了解後，以涉嫌傷人將他拘捕。被捕男子姓柳(22歲)為內地人，持雙程證來港，案件交由大埔警區重案組跟進。警方表示強烈讉責暴力行為，不論任何犯案原因或背景，都會嚴肅處理每一宗案件，並會積極調查跟進。
熊的姓李友人表示，熊從未與兇徒爭執，只曾在案發前見對方在現場出現過一次。李相信案件未必與今日的遊行有關，因派傳單在全港每個地區，無時無刻都有人做，可能兇徒隨機搵派傳單的人襲擊，又或者可能因政見問題，而隨意施擊。對於是否會被暴力嚇倒，李稱絕對不會，「我哋爭取嘅嘢大家都知，有啲人要阻止我們，當然唔會畏縮。」另有網民上載兇徒於案發前，在連儂隧道曾因撕貼紙與人爭執，更被拍下照片。
