A STOMPer feels that it is a waste of time for his school to make students sing the national anthem over and over again, saying that they are there to study and not spend 30 minutes at the assembly.

The STOMPer, who is from Serangoon Gardens Secondary, sent in a video showing students from the school being told to sing the national anthem repeatedly.

The student said:

"Making us sing the national anthem over and over again will not make us any better, you are wasting our time.

"We have N' levels, O' levels -- you would rather us spend 10 to 15 minutes singing till we get it right?"

He says the students would rather move on to their first lesson instead of cutting out time from it.

Adds the STOMPer:

"Personally, I hate singing in the morning, I only sang the national anthem once...the subsequent ones I ignored.

"Repeating the song won't make us love country more, it makes us 'hate' the national anthem more (not hate as in...yeah...I mean like, super annoyed? I mean come on! You like to be 'forced' to sing it three to four times in the morning?)"

The STOMPer went on to say that although he loves Singapore, he hopes this routine, which had been going on for days, would stop.

i don't think i will ever sing it again in my life, same goes for saying the pledge.

what's the point when the words are just lies?

In many countries like US and Oz, the pledge is recited from the hearts of the people because they are proud of their countries. In Sinkeeland, most of them do it because they are made to and I wouldn't blame them for it. With a fucked up government like this, it is perfectly understandable.

Yes ALL LIES.

Oue anthem and especially our PLEDGE are a bunch of LIES.

Even GOLDER YEARS already said long time ago: There is no level playing field.

Someone should translate our anthem into English bcos I do not understand a word what it means.

As for the pledge, paste it here for a GOOD LAUGH.

It will be useful when they become national swimmers or footballers.
The words are not lies, but some of the people who sing it are liars.

Well, you can see some of the ministers pictures in some of the textbooks for secondary schools. I think its moral education or civics text book.

When I saw it last year, I was kind of shock as I thought these kind of things only happen in North Korea.

so after this incident, who is still heartup for nationalism?

The bigger issue here is not singing the anthem many times. but why are we nor the school children not taught our Constitution at all?

Hands up how many here knows our Constitution like the citizens of the U.S.

i tot there's onli one constitution in sgp? the lky constitution?

us constitution is better lah, so help me God.

I have forgotten about Singapore national anthem and pledge. It is a good thing for me because they are no longer valid by looking at the way things are happening around us.

here's the new pledge...

we the citizens of singapore, permanent residents and foreign talents.
pledge ourselves as one disunited people of different disporas
regardless or race, language or religion, not true with the exception of special treatments for muslims.
to be an hybrid regime society.
based on lky kangaroo court justice and equality,
so as to achieve happines, prosperity and progress for lky GIC and Temasek holdings returns.

majulah tua lan par!

Feelongs of patriotism or pride in anything cannot be forced and must come naturally.
I remembered during one national day parade rehearsal-our contingent was asked to march around non stop as the Regulars were not satisfied with our singing of certain so called Singapore songs .
We were already tired after a long day at work and and the additional marching after office certainly did not do anything to lift up our spirits.
The regulars shouted themselves hoarse but the singing certainly did not improve. What can they do -charge a whole contingent ?

One result for me was that I have stopped watching National Day Parades from henceforth as the whole incident cheesed me off.

Gd move !!! The more they make students sing, the more they grow up hating the country n the evil gov !!!!!

Useful, you ask Li Jia Wei if she know how to sing Majulah Singapura or recite the pledge at all. I bet most of these imports can't even be bother.

even an old man myself does not know every words meaning in our National Anthem. had asked those colleagues around me and no one knows every words spellings and meanings.

More than 80% of the students don't even know what the lyric in the anthem means. Waste time singing that stupid anthem.

I know for a fact that all the foreign imports of the Singapore national football team sing the national anthem before international matches.
In fact, some of the locals were not singing.
