Bomb hoax caller arrested

POLICE arrested a man on Monday for making a bomb-hoax call to the police emergency hotline, '999'. The police received an anonymous call at 11.47am believed to be made by the 42-year-old, who stated that there was a bomb at a hotel along North Bridge Road. Following the call, security measures were stepped up while investigations took place, leading to the man's arrest at 6pm on the same day.

Swede on bomb hoax charge

A SWEDISH national was charged in a district court on Wednesday with making a bomb hoax call. No plea was taken from chef Erik Halvard Halvardsson, 42, who was remanded for psychiatric assessment. He allegedly called police that there was a bomb at Swissotel at Raffles City Shopping Centre on Monday afternoon. If convicted under the UN (Anti-Terrorism Measures), he can be fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years. He will be back in court on Oct 6.
