Long ago when I was assigned to collect coins from vending machines, I would put aside the foreign coins (equal in size to Sg 20 cents) collected and took them to play in jackpot fruit machines. They still work. Sometimes, the customers were even nastier and I'd find washers and spacers in them too. As a student in the US, we'd used South American peso size of a US quarter for laundry machines. Saved a bit of money that way.

Use the 2000 dong when u visit CUNT, use it to replace the S$1 coin when u get the trolley. Push the trolley home and dump it in the gutter after use. The Chinese rmb 1 dollar coin also can work in the trolley.

Vietnam official gets suspended sentence for fatal car crash

A court in the central city of Da Nang Monday awarded a nine-month suspended jail sentence to an official from a neighboring province for crashing his car into a woman and killing her last year.

Tran Quang Hien, 55, chief inspector of the Quang Nam Province Department of Health, was convicted for “violating driving regulations.”

On June 5 last year Hien tried to park his friend's car outside a restaurant on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in Da Nang, and, while reversing from the sidewalk, crashed into two motorbikes traveling on the road.

Pham Van Hieu, 24, and Tran Thi Minh Nguyet, 27, fell off their motorbikes and sustained bruises.

Hien went on to crash into a motorbike driven by Nguyen Nhat Huyen Trang, 24, killing her on the spot.

Hien paid VND215 million (US$10,200) as compensation to Trang’s family.

4 jailed for attempted murder in Vietnam

A court in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau has jailed four people for attempting to murder a man in 2011, a crime that was organized by a prisoner with assistance from prison officers.

According to the indictment, in October 2010, Doan Anh Tuan, 54 and Le Thi Tuyet Hanh, 53, divorced but continued to live together since they had yet to divide their shared assets.

One day Hanh asked her friend Nguyen Thi Yen, 42, to help her find someone to beat up Tuan as revenge for his violent behavior with her following the divorce.

Yen visited her ex-boyfriend Pham Anh Hoang, 45, who was in Xuan Loc Prison in the southern province of Dong Nai.

She gave him her cell phone to talk to Hanh and then Nguyen Huu Tuan, 33, of Hai Phong to ask him to come to Vung Tau to beat up Hanh’s ex-husband.

Hanh then contacted Tuan and paid him VND20 million (US$948).

In November that year Tuan bought a shotgun and bullets for VND3 million ($142) on the Chinese border and left for Vung Tau along with an accomplice, Chu Van Duong.

The duo stayed in the beach town for six days, but could not carry out an attack on Anh Tuan, and returned to Hai Phong, prosecutors said.

In April 2011 Tuan again went to Vung Tau, this time alone since Duong had died of AIDS.

On the 11th he followed his quarry from the latter’s house.

When Anh Tuan parked in front of a drugstore, he shot at him in his thigh and arm. He missed with a third shot before fleeing.

The victim was rushed to hospital by passers-by.

Tuan informed Hanh and left for Xuan Loc District in Dong Nai the next day.

But on April 26, when he returned to Vung Tau to collect a debt for someone, he was arrested.

The Ba Ria – Vung Tau People’s Court gave him 13 years, Hoang 11 years, Hanh 10 years, and Yen eight years for “attempted murder.”

Prosecutors said when Tuan was in Xuan Loc, he stayed in the house of Hoang Nghia Xuong, who was then an officer at Xuan Loc Prison.

Tuan told Xuong about the shooting and even showed the latter his shotgun.

The officer told him to leave, saying he planned to rent his house out.

But Tuan asked to stay for two days so that he could find another place, and the officer agreed instead of informing the police.

The Ministry of Public Security, which investigated the case, sought to press charges of covering up a crime against Xuong.

But the Supreme People’s Procuracy later called off the investigation, saying he had a clean record, contributed to the police for many years, and committed the crime out of fear of reprisal.

He was however dismissed from the police force.

The ministry’s investigators also uncovered violations by some officers at Xuan Loc Prison when managing Hoang and sought to punish them.

In 2009 Tuan was introduced to Nguyen Quang Hien, a Xuan Loc officer, by an officer in a prison in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

Hien, together with Nguyen Van Kha, another Xuan Loc officer, introduced Tuan to Hoang so that they could form a partnership after the latter's release.

Hoang was serving a 16-and-a-half year term for “deliberately injuring others,” “depriving others of their properties,” “causing public disorder,” “illegally possessing weapons,” and “resisting people on public duty.”
