China has responded to the scheduling of Thursday's meeting between President Obama and the Dalai Lama -- and they want it canceled.
"We urge the U.S. side to fully understand the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues, honor its commitment to recognizing Tibet as part of China and opposing 'Tibet independence,'" said China Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.
The Obama-Dalai Lama meeting is one of several sources of tension between the U.S. and China, a list that includes new arms sales to Tawain, Chinese currency manipulation and evidence of Chinese hack attacks on Google.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the U.S. and Chinese have always discussed their disputes, and will continue to do so.
"We think we have a mature enough relationship with the Chinese," Gibbs said. "We can agree on issues that are of mutual interest, but we also have a mature enough relationship that we know that two countries on this planet are not always going to agree on everything."
