For watch and hear, your recommendation is great. However, there is no accompanied Chinese text, therefore, no suitable for reading or read along.

In fact, if there is a online video channel / Youtube / actual websites that include
(1) Chinese news reporting in video and
(2) 简体中文 subtitles, just like our Ch5 news with English subtitles,
that might also be quite a good idea too.

Credits to you for this novel approach to reading/speaking Mandarin (for beginners).

Am still compiling, will rate and acknowledge all the recommended websites & contributors later...

I was told by one Professor in Chinese Studies that 简体字 makes it more difficult to write Chinese than if they stick to 繁体字。Reason is with fewer and over simplification of strokes, there are fewer stroke combinations and some simplified characters look very similar but are actually very different. Chinese characters are ancient relics that should have been consigned to historical curiosities like Egyptian hieroglyphics long ago. Chinese characters hampered Chinese communication technology for centuries since there was no way to make a Chinese typewriter. It's only saved in recent decades by invention of computer software to translate Chinese characters from an alpha-numeric keyboard. Without a typewriter, it meant Chinese could have pioneered invented nor pioneered computing technology.

Unlike English, a Chinese word cannot be uniquely and completely represented by Roman characters, even if we are able to put in the tone indicators. Roman characters only describe the sound not the meaning the words. That why Roman characters can be used to represent the sound of different syllables of a word as in Hanyu Pinyin. But as this does not represent the meaning of the word, as most it can used as a pronunciation tool. Therefore Hanyu Pinyin cannot be a substitute for Chinese characters. There are simply too many characters that carry the same sound and unless there is someway to also represent its meaning, the Chinese word cannot be uniquely represented. Chinese characters can do that and the same characters can be used by all dialect groups. They mean the same thing. Only they might sound differently. Anyway Hanyu Pinyin as we studied it is used to represent the sound of the words only in the Mandarin. If you want it to represent other dialects, the words will be written differently and different sets of tone indicators have to be incorporated.
