BERLIN - BAYERN Munich captured their eighth domestic double by routing Werder Bremen 4-0 in the final of the German Cup on Saturday. Bayern can complete a rare treble in Louis van Gaal's first season as coach if they beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final in one week in Madrid. 'Shortly before Christmas I never thought the season would be ending like this,' said Bayern president Uli Hoeness. Van Gaal had an erratic start and was nearly fired in the fall before Bayern escaped a nearly certain ouster from the Champions League and started winning in the Bundesliga.

Arjen Robben scored from a penalty in the 34th minute, Ivica Olic doubled the lead in the 51st, Franck Ribery added the third in the 63rd and Bastian Schweinsteiger completed the victory in the 83rd. Bayern stretched their German Cup title record to 15, one week after clinching their 22nd league championship at the same Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Bremen were in their 10th cup final and have six titles, the second most after Bayern, who have been in the final 17 times. --AP

Louis is not exactly a very nice man either.
Where do you think Jose got some of his attributes from?
They are almost like teacher and pupil.

This season has a lot of coincidences.

In England, Chelsea double, miss out on CL treble
In Spain, Barca double, miss out on CL treble
In Germany, Bayern Munich double, waiting to complete treble in CL final
In Italy, Inter Milan double, waiting to complete treble in CL final ...

WOW ! Domestic doubles so common these days ?!

<!-- story content : start --> MUNICH - BAYERN Munich midfielder Franck Ribery will miss Saturday's Champions League final against Inter Milan after the German club failed in their last attempt to overturn a ban on Monday. Bayern's appeal against a three-match suspension imposed on the Frenchman for a bad tackle in the semi-finals against Olympique Lyon was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). It means Bayern will be without one of their two most creative players as they take on one of Europe's best defences but coach Louis van Gaal was prepared to shrug off the loss. 'We do not depend on (Arjen) Robben or Ribery,' Van Gaal told reporters on Monday before CAS announced the decision. 'You (reporters) have said we depend on them but we have said it often that we do not depend on them.'

Ribery, who has already served one match of the ban, was dismissed for a high, late challenge on Lisandro Lopez. Ribery was replaced by Hamit Altintop for the second leg against Lyon with the Turkish player winning praise for his performance. 'Hamit is in very good form,' Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger told reporters. 'Individually Franck is a great player but if you saw what Hamit did in Lyon, then there is no concern. Hamit is also more active in the defence,' said the Germany international. Van Gaal, who will come up against his former assistant at Barcelona Jose Mourinho, now the Inter coach, said he would not change his gameplan for the final. 'I coach my players to play attractive football and win and he (Mourinho) coaches only to win,' said van Gaal. --REUTERS
