Four Bangladeshi housebreakers nabbed

POLICE on Friday arrested four Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 21 to 41, in connection with a string of housebreaking after several cases of break-ins involving the theft of steel and copper cables from factories in Jurong Industrial Estate were reported since May this year.
The culprits would gain entry into the premises by cutting a hole in the perimeter fence at the rear or side of the premises and once inside, they would cut the cables into shorter pieces before making off with the loot.
A task force comprising officers from the Jurong Police Division was subsequently formed to track down the culprits, after a detailed crime pattern analysis and extensive investigations were done to establish the culprits' profiles.
During their rounds in the wee hours of Friday morning, the officers spotted the driver of a van behaving suspiciously outside a factory at Tuas Basin Link and proceeded to intercept the vehicle and arrest the suspect along Tuas Road.
Another team of officers carried on with observation at the factory where the van was initially sighted and managed to apprehend the three other suspects leaving the factory with six coils of stainless steel wires valued at over $6,000.
During a search of the van, the officers found housebreaking tools including bolt cutters, screwdrivers, pen-knives and gloves, while a bolt cutter and two pairs of gloves were also recovered at the scene and seized as case exhibits.
