An Australian man has reportedly blown himself up in a suicide bombing in eastern Syria.
Counter-terrorism officials are investigating reports that a man named Abu Asma was responsible for a car-bomb attack in the Syrian city of Deir al-Zor, about 450km northeast of Damascus, The Australian reports.
The newspaper said security sources had confirmed the man was known to counter-terrorism authorities, but said the Department of Foreign Affairs and the federal police had not commented on the reports.

In a post on its Facebook page on Wednesday, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a "suicide bomber from al-Nusra called `Abu Asma' al-Australi' blew up himself in a detonated car in the school in al-Mre'iya town".
It is not clear when the attack happened.
