Cyber-crime crackdown
Date July 14, 2013

Australia will help fund the establishment of three centres in Indonesia aimed at cracking down on organised cyber crime.
During his recent visit to Jakarta, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd committed $600,000 for the centres, one in South Sumatra, one in East Java and one in the Riau Islands.
Because most organised and transnational crime is supported by online and computer activity, the three centres will provide cutting-edge technology and facilities to support computer forensics and high-tech crime investigations.
The increased capability in Indonesia will help the Indonesian National Police fight people smuggling, terrorism, money laundering and other transnational crimes.
The latest funding promise builds on work that began in 2011 when, with Australian government funding and help from the Australian Federal Police, the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre was established at the NIP headquarters.
Three cyber units have since been created and are already in operation in Bali, Medan and Jakarta.
