Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that nation building is not just about building the infrastructure but it is also about community bonding.
He was speaking at the People's Association's 50th anniversary celebrations in Ang Mo Kio on Saturday.
Mr Lee said: "These 50 years of nation building... (it) is not just building roads or trains, airports, hospitals and schools, HDB estates, but also bringing people together so that they are happy to live together, work together, with friends in the community."
Mr Lee was there to launch the Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang Facebook page which aims to reach out to netizens and the younger generation.
Adding his comments on the Facebook, he encouraged netizens to participate actively and post messages on the page.
The page also features an exhibition showcasing the unique features and transformation of the seven estates in Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang GRC over the years.
Afterwards, Mr Lee joined residents at Teck Ghee to celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival.
He said occasions like this are more than just upholding tradition. They also help to strengthen togetherness.
Prime Minister Lee said: "We look forward with confidence to next year and the year after that, but at the same time, we always have to ask ourselves what can go wrong and make sure that we do well. And one of the key ways is for all of us to work together and feel for one another."
More than 2,000 Teck Ghee residents participated in the evening's festivities.
