DAVID Cameron yesterday warned Argentina off the Falklands — after 99.8 per cent of islanders voted to stay British.
Patriotic Falklanders took to the streets to hail the result — as only THREE out of 1,517 voters chose No.
Mr Cameron said: “Falkland Islanders have spoken clearly about their future. Now other countries, I hope, will respect this very, very clear result.”
And in a blunt warning to Argie leader Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, he added: “People should know we will always be there to defend them.”
The PM called the referendum — which had a massive 92 per cent turnout — “the clearest possible result there could be”.
He went on: “The Falkland Islands may be thousands of miles away, but they’re British through and through and that’s how they want to stay. We believe in self-determination.”
