Are We Animals, Birds or What? The English used Here Is Awful & Nauseous.

Everytime we look into the papers (ST), especially after the Budget was announced, we see many reporters refering to 'goodies and other benefits" for the citizens with words like, "such and such THROWN in" .

We humans throw peanuts at wild monkeys or crumbs of bread and unwanted rice at birds, like pigeons.

I love dogs, but humans also tend to "Throw" chicken bones at stray dogs.

Why are reporters using the word "Throw" or "Thrown" for humans like us (citizens)?

Have they downgraded humans (citizens of Singapore" to such a status?

Why can't they use right words like were "offered" or "given" or was "made available", etc....

To make matters worse, there are also many shameless politicians who use these words without knowing the hurt and distress it causes to the people.

The same applies to the ST reporters and editors.

All these people are doing a greatest disservice to the citizens of Singapore...

They are putting salt onto the wounds of respectable humans like us.....

The number of grammatical errors on the news also cast reporters and editors in bad light..

Your suggested terms may not always be suitable. Ultimately the choice of terminology depends on the context and sentence structure used. BTW 'throw' isn't restricted to animals

The ST will describe in terms favorable to the intention of the authorities. Back in the seventies, they used the word "crash bars" to describe what the industry and everyone else in motorcycling call "engine guards" to make the implementation of them make samaritan sense, like they were doing it to protect riders and pillions. And to make it even more bizarre, they made it by "LAW" that every motorcycle above 200 c.c. be fitted with them - including trail bikes. I took a photo of a large capacity bike in an accident with its "crashbars" caught in the bumpers of a VW Beetle - this was never published, wonder why.

The ST is the shittiest English Language Daily. More like a Newsletter than a newspaper, doesn't even have a daily crossword puzzle for avid English readers. And it is the only English daily avaible locally.

I find that "thrown in" is quite appropriate to use in this context of budget.
"Thrown in" is normally used in situation whereby, it is not a requirement, not entitlement, is more like a benefit, discounts,..etc
If citizen (like me) is willing to accept the "thrown-in" items, they are no better than a beggar lor
Only if you reject the goodies, then u r qualify to disagree with the term "thrown-in" .

That is in sports. Acceptable to "throw" or "pass" the ball.

In footbal also words like "grab" and "kick" is familiar.

In NS also certain words, also sounding derogatory and insulting to paternity is acceptable.

If such words are ok, then ok lah. No issues at all.

Was just trying to introduce what I felt was inappropriate.
