On his 95th birthday, former Formula 1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone reflected on his life as a father to a 70-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, as well as his peaceful residence in the Swiss mountain town of Gstaad.

The British billionaire marked the occasion on Oct. 28 quietly with his wife, 49-year-old Fabiana, and their youngest son, Ace. The family lead a disciplined lifestyle, prioritizing time together and limiting technology for their child. Ace is not allowed screen time on weekdays, must finish homework before entertainment and always talks with his parents during dinner.
"Ace is a wonderful boy," Ecclestone told Bild. "He's bright, curious and interested in everything."
Fabiana added that the pair work as a team, explaining that her husband's patience balances her stricter approach.

This image contrasts sharply with Ecclestone’s decades at the helm of F1, where he was known for his sheer force and ruthlessness, as he transformed the sport into a global billion-dollar empire.
"Money was never the motivation," he added. "It was always about ideas and control."

Earlier this year, Ecclestone sold his personal collection of 69 F1 cars, worth an estimated US$663 million, to Mark Mateschitz, son of the late Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz. Calling them "vehicles that have written the history of the sport and marked technical milestones," Ecclestone said Mateschitz was the most suitable person to preserve that legacy. Mateschitz plans to open the collection to the public in the near future.
Ecclestone has also sold one yacht and intends to sell another, saying he uses them only a few days each year, part of what he describes as a move toward a simpler life. The shift followed a major case in 2023, when he admitted misleading authorities about overseas assets and paid nearly $1 billion in back taxes. He also received a 17-month suspended sentence.
Still having a fortune of nearly $4 billion, Ecclestone now lives modestly in a chalet overlooking the Alps.
His family life remains unconventional: his eldest daughter Deborah is 70, while Ace has just begun first grade.
"It's quite something," Ecclestone told Bild. "You look at your oldest and youngest and realize how much has happened in between."
Ace attends an international school and speaks English, Portuguese, Swiss German and German. Fabiana hopes he grows up appreciating a normal life, despite his privileged background, Daily Mail reported.
Ecclestone began his career in racing as a driver before moving into team management and eventually gaining control of F1’s commercial rights. He’s considered one of the most powerful sports figures in history.
For decades, he oversaw everything from TV rights to global race scheduling, shaping F1 into the luxury-driven, globally influential spectacle it is today.
He stepped down as F1 CEO in 2017 following Liberty Media’s $8 billion takeover
