This public display of affection could cost the couple a $500 fine as it can be an annoyance to other passengers.

According to the Rapid Transit Systems Act, a person could be fined up to $500 if the person's conduct causes nuisance or annoyance to other passengers.

STOMPer Rachel sent us an email from SMRT in reply to her enquiry on commuters who cut their nails on buses and trains.

In fact, apart from being a nuisance to other passengers, they may face an additional $500 fine if they fail to dispose of their clippings as littering is not permitted on the train.

Rachel shares with us the rules and regulations which were provided in the email reply from SMRT:

"Under the Rapid Transit Systems Act (Chapter 263A, Section 42):

"Section 15b – No one shall place any litter upon the railway premises, except into receptacles expressly provided for that purpose. (Maximum fine of $500)

"Section 17 – Passenger not to cause nuisance – No one shall conduct himself on any train or in any part of the railway premises so as to cause nuisance or annoyance to other passengers. (Maximum fine of $500)"
