Yaacob Ibrahim to visit Google, Facebook, Amazon in US

SINGAPORE - Minister for Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, will visit the United States from May 18 to 25 to study the latest developments in the infocomm and media (ICM) sectors, and opportunities for possible partnerships.

The Ministry of Communications and Information said in a statement that learnings from the visit will also help Singapore formulate the strategies for its ten-year Infocomm Media Masterplan that will be released in mid-2015.

Some of the companies that Dr Yaacob will be visiting include Google, Microsoft, Coursera, Amazon, Facebook, Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic.

Dr Yaacob will also meet about 100 Singaporeans, mainly professionals from the technology, media and investment sectors as well as students, working and studying in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He will share with them the new ICM initiatives in Singapore and seek their views on them.

Dr Yaacob will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, and Media Development Authority.
