SINGAPORE – About 50 people were evacuated from a Housing Board block in Jalan Bahagia on Aug 9 after a fire broke out in a sixth-floor unit.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 34 Jalan Bahagia at around 9.30pm, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) just after midnight on Aug 10.

The fire, which was in a bedroom, was extinguished with a water jet, while the rest of the flat suffered heat and smoke damage, said the SCDF.

No one was inside the flat when the firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

In a photo posted by the SCDF on Facebook, the bedroom and its contents – including a scorched bed frame – appeared heavily damaged by the fire, with its walls and ceiling also discoloured.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was likely linked to an electrical incident in the flat’s bedroom, said the SCDF.

The SCDF reminded the public that power outlets should not be overloaded with electrical appliances and they should switch off appliances when they are not in use.

Wires that are frayed or those with cracked cords should also be replaced before being used.

Jalan Besar GRC MP Shawn Loh spent time with the residents after attending the National Day Parade.

He said the Residents Network centre was opened to offer respite to those in need, although most had returned to their flats.

Mr Loh added that three residents had helped to alert their neighbours to the fire, and even carried some seniors to the evacuation area.

Hello uncle, direct energy weapons are installed everywhere. It is expected to have lots of these fires. With direct energy, more accidents, more fires, more sudden deaths.

Isn’t that good for the depopulation?

Only the sheeple keep blaming ev and pmd but they are not looking things on the root cause

PAP waiting for more deaths and serious injuries before they will take action

Please do not overload 13A socket points, as it is a common practice for electricians to connect multiple nearby 13A wall sockets to a single ELCB or RCCB. However, if any of these 13A wall sockets are connected to a multi-way extension socket, the cumulative current of all household appliances must not exceed the rated 13A for safety reasons.

Jalan Bahagia is a very ghetto part of Whampoa area.

And if you cross the overhead bridge north across the PIE, you will reach southeast Toa Payoh, the most ghetto part of Toa Payoh.

Between these two places you can smell the stinky winds blowing from the Kallang River nearby. I am amazed people actually want to live there.

Oh, I thought the cause of these fires are PMDs

Yeah, and they dare to call themselves People's Action Party.

This happens for the simple reason there is not a water sprinkler system in all flats. They are cheaply build death traps.

More and more common. To same it’s just news, to those who got everything burnt in the house, it could mean losing everything

You will know that they want to demolish those flats when there is a fire.
