The latest case of China continuing to escalate China-Japan tensions have now extended to K-POP entertainment with events in China involving groups featuring Japanese members being cancelled.

Chinese authorities' “no-Japan” movement in China continue to. restrict cultural exchanges with Japan and is now affecting South Korean K-POP

On the 13th, Le-Sserafim cancelled its first single album “SPAGHETTI” fan signing event, originally scheduled for the 14th in Shanghai, China. Among Le Sserafim’s five members, Sakura and Kazuha are Japanese.

Without specifying the exact reason for the cancellation, there is speculation that the inclusion of Japanese members in the group may have influenced the decision to cancel.

There have also been cases where Japanese members were excluded from events held in China, the group Close Your Eyes held a fan meeting in Hangzhou, China, on the 6th, but Japanese member Kenshin was absent.

Additionally a fan meeting for trainees under Incode Entertainment, scheduled for the same day in Shanghai, was also abruptly canceled on the day of the event. The meeting was set to feature Japanese participants Masato and Sen.

These come as China has been continuing to try and pressure Japan through measures such as bans on seafood imports, travel restrictions, and cancelling of performances and films.

The wave of cancellations is a worrying sign for millions of Japanese and Korean culture enthusiasts in China, where there is a notably strong following for K-POP and Japanese entertainment among young Chinese.
