Given the growing popularity of tablets, it won't surprise us that users are bringing them everywhere, be it on hiking trips or into a nuclear power plant. For those moments where security, durability and reliability are preferred in a tablet, Panasonic is hoping that its just-announced Toughbook Android tablet will be the answer. There's no pricing information or even the version of Android used, but we're liking the rugged angle.
Crunchgear - Tablets tend to be delicate devices, most comfortable being used on a cushy couch or over the safety of a study table. But not the just-announced Panasonic Toughbook Android tablet. It’s a Toughbook product and brings along years of design innovations that allows it to live in the real world. It is, perhaps, the world’s first blue-collar Android tablet.

I love the gingerbeard and Android market.

Andriod is a good idea.

I think it is time that some one start to parallel google's style and begin yet another compatible open source mobile platform. Otherwise google will very quickly be the next micro-SHIT if they are not already worse.:rolleyes:;)

Apps should be able to run on both / all platforms via a wrapper.

I also like to see stronger hardware devices into mobile market, the x86_64 CPUs for example. Net-book class hardware into the tablet platform and running open source OS.;)

I find the first wave of android tablets to be quite disappointing. I have been looking out for HTC flyer since Feb but the reviews have not been too great.

The next HTC tablet coming up is the Paccuni which is a 10.1 inch model. But i'm looking for a 7 inch one :(

It is what I said earlier - the issue of processor / CPU power. ARMS RISCs are too weak for anything larger than 3" phones, because the bigger the screen the more CPU power need to draw the screen. And you are displaying more information it takes CPU power to process them. ARMS are good for phones only.

We need more power for larger screens. Best bring the 64 bits CPU in.

But of course you are to prepare to carry more battery to power the stronger CPU, more like a net-book weight already, but will be POWERFUL. Display high quality high resolution and more info on your screen.

More fulfilling experience. It is not the OS problem, it is the hardware, the CPU and other silicons.;) Insufficient CPU power gives you slow ugly screen and responses.

if can surf on phone why bother with pad

too many gadgets, killing the environment

Eventually some of the devices will become net-books without folding keyboard, all touch screen. But wouldn't be so practical to have it that slim and light because powerful CPU needs battery capacity, not some feather weight devices can hold. Nice Big Bright screens also sucks battery power. Otherwise can only view in dark environment.

Dead under the sun. Like vampire (think LKy) ;)

this I agree. The competition for tablets is very very hot now but the hardware shortage crisis in the electronic industry is not good news for consumers. that means all the manufacturers will be pushing out sub standard devices to keep up market share.

btw, the best android tablet now would be the Motorola Xoom. It was jointly developed by Google.

The dual-core nVidia chip is so far the most powerful chip based on ARMS core still. That is still inadequate and over-priced. Compared with net-books these larger screen Andriod devices are still damn lucrative. ;)

Google had hijacked it too much, to compel users to have google IDs, sync and lock your data with only themselves, made captive the apps market, limited users to youtube only etc. You can not play video streams e.g. from vimeo or any google competitors.:(

Thus it is necessary to have a second linux open source development brunch , compatible enough to run the Android apps. Something to strategically keep google in-check.

;)
