The Americans should let the Two Koreas, slog it out & the Two China's slog it out too...& the Japanese, will come in & take up the spoils, provided they don't get polluted by what they used to fight with. Not fair for the americans to leave on short notice. They should allow south Korea to 1st develop their nuclear weapons so that it will be a fair fight if it ever comes to a fight between north & south Korea.

Japan would also want to get it's own nulcear weapons to counter the North Korean & China threat. They probably already have the know how to build their own bomb. Just that they have relied on the americans for defence

Then maybe it will be the turn of ASEAN If China is going to be the new bully in the neighbourhood & the USA decides to withdraw from Asia, ASEAN will need a deterrent.

Israel has the most powerful army in the middle east & they can rely on the US as long as there are jews in the US. So why do they still need nuclear weapons?

Nuclear weapons is the ultimate deterrent because even with one weapon it could be very costly for the enemy. Turning any victory into a pyrrhic victory.

Just look at some of the more backward countries which have nuclear weapons e.g. india & pakistan. Japan & Korea are more technically advanced & I suspect they can easily join the nuclear club without the assistance of the US. They only need the US to delay their withdrawal while the local scientists develop their nuclear capability.

So if the US were to abandon Asia, you will see more nations joining the nuclear club especially with a more assertive China bullying it's neighbours.
