In this era of AI generated deepfake images, it is not easy to distinguish what is real or false. The only way is to hear what is said to determine realities.
A) Tariffs.
For simplicity, let's use a manufactured screw driver as example.
The US made screw driver, from good old Pennsylvania steel is sold at USD1 to consumerist society such as 300million population Americans. It is a household item & thru such sales, the US company or competitive companies are able to earn a profit & critically, to pay off wages & supply chains.
China, well known for its low quality products & poor quality controls, made the same screwdriver at USD$0.70cts. As China is not a consumerists society, it attempts to sell such to USA & World.
As it is cheap, many will buy the China made screwdriver. As a result, the US companies will close down, workers left without jobs, supply chains shuttered - dire consequences not just to US but even to China, being that with a consumerist society left penniless, none would be left to buy even China products....
However, with tariffs at 60% or more on China goods, that China made screwdriver will cost USD$1.20cts in American markets, which will be more expensive to buy than good old Pennsylvania steel screwdrivers.
Rest assured - China will NOT pay the tariffs. It WILL BE the Importers of China goods that will pay the tariffs, & even that is misleading, as the importers will PASS ON the tariff costs to the consumer. Ultimately, it is the American consumer whom will pay for the tariffs, BUT why pay for more - USD$1.20, for a poor quality product made in China, when better American goods abound?
Furthermore, should they buy the China products & foolishly pay for such products which includes the tariffs - such funds gained will be returned to the US Treasury for social expenditure such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc, etc.
B)Living wages.
USA is not China. USA has all the resources it needs & is a consumerist society. As society progresses, so too will salaries & a Standard of Living - such as need for cars to travel the vast distances for work, better homes as shelter, savings for kids education, etc. Thus, a need for living wages which American companies can afford to pay, so long as consumers buy American.
China is not a consumerist society, despite the glitter & bright lights such as seen in Shanghai, etc. Their standard of living is lower - they can just plant & feed on veggies & meat from their backyards. They do not even need solar panels - they can just dig a chunk of coal & use it for heat or cooking.
Those who work in sweatshops 996 -9am to 9pm 6 days a week, are paid low wages & live in shoeboxes type apartments, often rented.
Despite the allure of its potential market size of 1.3 Billion population, it remains an illusion as China is not a consumerist society. Even their own companies have difficulty selling their own products to its citizens, let alone foreign exporters.
The only ones buying are the state owned manufacturing firms, for resources that they do not have, from overseas, to manufacture & sell it back to the World markets, thus impoverishing those nations when such nation could have manufactured goods themselves, to create jobs & economy with tariffs to protect their markets and standard of living.
