AMD develops new fusion chip
Hyderabad, India. Dec 10, (AINS) :

A team of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD India) engineers has designed and developed its latest fusion chip 'Ontario' - combining a central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) in one chip and at least three times more powerful and economical compared to its competitors, company officials said Friday.

AMD India managing director and corporate vice president Dasaratha R. Gude told reporters the research and development team in Hyderabad, India produced the chip after working hard for two years.

"It has put India on the global map with product development capability that involved design and development of product from drawing board to mother board," he said.

While shipping began recently, the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will roll out their products powered by Ontario beginning January 2011.

Ontario will power netbooks / tablet PCs, small form factor desktops and devices, while Zacate, another version of Ontario, will be tucked in to energize the ultra-thin mainstream and value notebooks, desktops and all-in-ones.

The 90-member team that developed the fusion chip include Gude, project director Ajay Naini, chief engineer Michael Goddard and design manager Srini Gutta.

According to Naini, the estimated total available market for products of this ilk is 100 million units a year to power multiple consumer gadgets. The annualised market size is pegged at $30-40 billion.

AMD India plays a significant role in the design of microprocessors, Fusion SoCs (system on chips), graphics and media solutions.

That is why i stay away from them. When you listen to the way they talk, you know nothing valuable will come out from them.

When I read Robert X. Cringely on monday,1 Nov 2010.

"We’re into the Chinese decade, not the Chinese Century.

The century belongs to India.

Last century was all-American."

I was not convinced at all,I am still not convinced.

But the combination of USA tech and Indin's brains are certainly potent!

MM LKY did make an interesting observation about US-Indian commerical tie up to counter China laset week,he is certainly well versed in international strategic thinking.

We don't use child labour like the ah neh. In sg, all the researchers are HiGhLy PaId which is not cost effective to employ a full village of talents just to make a fucking chip with only a size of a fucking stamp.

$$$ matters, not talent.

What nonsense?

It's the management of talent that matters

American companies are top because they employ the best to do the job and pay them $100k/yr above.
Sinkie tech companies want to $30k/yr for an engineer. Tell me what kind of talent you can get?
