Why when they buy back the flat, it is based on the selling price then but when they sell leftover flats, it is based on current prices which is normally higher?

Minister for National Development Mr Khaw Boon Wan estimated that about 8,900 HDB flats were sold as a result of divorces.

These flats were sold between 2008 and 2011, said Mr Khaw.

HE was responding to queries from Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap about how many HDB matrimonial homes were sold as a result of marital breakdowns.

Mr Muhamad also asked about the number of appeal cases for HDB rental flats which HDB had received during this same period that involves a divorcee with a child/children under his/her custody; and how many of such appeals were granted and rejected.

Mr Khaw said during this period, HDB received 4,250 appeals for HDB rental flats from divorcees with custody of child/children. About 40 per cent of the appeals were approved.

The others were rejected as they had other housing options.
