Why not consider buy and equip aircraft carrier for Singapore ?

After all , most of the bases can be converted for residential use, more land for Industry ? Build 2 will do .......... !

MINDEF expenses will be HALF ...

Good idea. We can proceed with an aircraft carrier industry by serving American, Russian, French, Chinese aircraft carriers that regularly call at our naval base.

10 to 20 years later can start to build aircraft carriers for many potential buyers - like what we have done with creating Newater and Oil Rigs.

Many Sporeans do not know that Singapore is the world largest off-shore oil-rig builder in the world.

Excellent idea.

Once operational, residents of Jurong West won't be bothered by all that din the jets make taking off and landing. Same for those living in Paya Lebar.

Cheers!

No need lah! Balls carriers plenty already what! Aircraft carriers for fart?:D

These days these expensive toys are sitting ducks on the sea which can NEVER HIDE their own locations nor defend themselves from incoming missiles & torpedoes to send them to the bottom of seas.

US carriers are examples today that they are unable to defend against latest supersonic torpedoes as well as fast missiles coming in random zigzag trajectories. The huge size, and thermal + elector-magnetic + noise of it made them detectable and tractable from thousands of miles. They often also have a number of planes flying around to expose it's presence. You track their planes you will find their carriers. Can not hide!

All it needs is a few missiles or torpedoes costing 0.001% of the carrier and planes on board, and once they are within the range of attack (few thousand km) they can be finished off for once and for all.

Carriers have long lost their advantages. They can only be used to bully very weak and incapable enemies. For any power opponents they are just sitting ducks.
:D

During the Pacific battles of WW2 Japs & USA were trading attacks and sinking of each others carriers. Some carriers had to be sank by a friendly ship using torpedoes after they were fatally attacked by enemy planes. Usually the WW2 propeller bombers. Some damaged carriers were rebuilt and re-join battle after bombed damages by enemy. Later again sank in new battles.

E.g. famous battle of Midway:

Casualties:

US Pacific Fleet Losses

340 killed
Aircraft Carrier USS Yorktown
Destroyer USS Hammann
145 aircraft

Imperial Japanese Navy Losses
3,057 killed
Aircraft Carrier Akagi
Aircraft Carrier Kaga
Aircraft Carrier Soryu
Aircraft Carrier Hiryu
Heavy Cruiser Mikuma
228 aircraft

5 aircraft carriers sank within one single battle. Cost how much?

An aircraft carrier does not operate alone, period. It requires a fair number of support vessels that provide protection to the ship. The operational and maintenance cost of an entire fleet will be too prohibitive for Singapore to consider owning one.

pap is not rich enough to afford a carrier task force. not to mention several carrier task force.
one carrier task force 7500 men, does singapore have enough manpower to man several task force?
