The chairman of Air New Zealand's board was among hundreds of passengers who spent a night at Hong Kong Airport after an engine failed on an Auckland-bound flight.
The engine failure afflicted an Air New Zealand flight arriving at Hong Kong on Saturday, leaving chairman Tony Carter, as well as hundreds of others, stranded in the terminal overnight, according to one passenger.
Marooned travellers had to wait for accommodation but only 19 rooms were found.
"The rest of us have been sleeping in the lounge all night," Anita Easton told the NZ Herald.
"It took four or five hours for bottled water to be handed out."
"Nobody can get a shower. It took us ages to get water."
"It's just been a complete shambles."
The rearranged flight is expected to arrive at Auckland at 6am on Monday, about 18 hours late.
