Action: Business secretary Vince Cable has said the Coalition is 'fully signed up to robust action' in curbing bonuses
Bankers will receive billions of pounds in bonuses this year - despite demands from Government to reign in payments following the banking crisis that crippled the economy.
City bankers are expected to share a bonus pot worth around £7bn during the coming two months - a figure that is likely to spark outrage among struggling families and small businesses unable to borrow money.
It will be seen as a particularly bitter blow just days after the increase in VAT - from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent - and as oil and food prices are set to soar.
