Accounting student turns burglar at night

PERAK - A first-year Accounting student of a private university was caught for breaking into a house here at about 5am on July 15.

Police believe the arrest of the 20-year-old suspect is connected to nine break-in cases mostly at unlocked houses at the Westlake residential area.

Kampar OCPD Supt Ng Kong Soon said police recovered six MyKads, four student cards, mobile phones, laptops, wallets and other items worth RM15,000 (S$5,946) from the suspect.

"Investigations showed that the suspect would look for unlocked houses in the area between midnight and dawn.

"He would then enter and take anything valuable such as laptops, tablets, wallets and mobile phones," Supt Ng told a press conference.

Police have been working to unravel the Westlake residential area break-ins since the first case occurred early this year with suspicion falling on a student living in the area which is gated and guarded.

"Now that a suspect has been apprehended, I hope the students and parents can rest easier, but they must remain on guard and ensure that the doors are locked," he said.

Supt Ng said the suspect, who has no criminal record, would be remanded until investigations for theft and break-ins are completed.
