SINGAPORE - Road users were brought to a crawl after an accident involving a trailer and a car occurred before noon on Tuesday (Oct 26) on the Pan-Island Expressway.
The police said they were alerted at 11.03am to the accident near the Thomson Road exit towards Tuas, and that no injuries were reported.
In online footage of the incident, hundreds of cars were seen stuck behind a stationary truck that obstructed three lanes of the expressway.

Motorists had to use the first lane to slip past the truck before the authorities arrived.

The jam stretched back all the way past the section of PIE near St Andrew's Junior School, more than 3km away, according to another video uploaded on social media.

Around 11.15am, the Land Transport Authority alerted road users of the accident, and advised them in several tweets to avoid lanes two to four.

Singapore road system is like human blood artery ... when all going smoothly, there is no issue.
Once a while got a few slow tortoise who refuse to keep legal speed limit, worse is Truck/Van driving on lane 2
These actions already enough to slow down the traffic, now imagine such accident, major blockage.
We need to further cut down the numbers of private saloon cars on the road.
COE for car should set to $1M & limit 1 car quota per household.

You will just end up with more people riding bicycles on the road.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Aiyah ... all accident that happen on the road with cyclist, will be automatic 100% cyclist at fault.
Driver will be free of any offence, driver can even claim repair cost from cyclist.
In the event of cyclist death, his next-of-kin will be responsible for payment.
This way the message will be very clear to cyclist, you go on the road, you pay for everything.

Yeah but COE $1m means very few cars will be on the road. So you end up with PMDs and bicycles all over the road. LOL!

How come you jumped to talking about accidents and money and claims? I was just thinking of the road congestion issue.

That should be the way… a tiny island like this has no place for four wheelers
Actually SG is indeed a quite good place to trial a system of transport which is mostly PMD and bicycles. Very green. Warm weather also means batteries dont get affected in capacity vs in cold countries.

Something to consider.

Can be a role model for the world. No more cars.

If got jam and got delay...can refund ERP charges ?

U also need to add that cyclists slows down road traffic.
