SINGAPORE: A 45-year-old man, believed to be involved in a series of abalone thefts at supermarkets island-wide, has been arrested.
Cases of abalone thefts were reported at supermarkets at Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Panjang, Hougang, Toa Payoh and Woodlands since December.
The police managed to establish the identity of the suspect from CCTV recordings.
The police received a tip-off on Saturday that the suspect was at a supermarket at Ang Mo Kio St 32.
The suspect was caught red handed with three cans of abalone.
If convicted, he can be jailed up to seven years and fined.
