SINGAPORE - SMRT said yesterday that it will begin the roll-out of a progressive and responsive wage system that will benefit non-executive employees of its train and bus operations, as well as corporate office staff.
From next month, all SMRT bus drivers on permanent contracts, who currently belong to two schemes, will come under a single bus-captain scheme.
This allows drivers to be developed, assessed, incentivised and promoted based on a common set of performance indicators and competency levels.
Separately, bus drivers from China under two-year contracts will get the same performance incentives as other drivers, an annual wage supplement and a year-end variable bonus, which other bus drivers get.
These replace the Chinese drivers' current ex gratia payments and sign-on bonus.
