Now that nightlife has returned, this cab driver that I finally gotten after spamming the booking for more than 1 hour during a weekend night in town told me how they try to make the most $ out of it.
He told me my booking was accepted only because my trip is short enough, at most 15mins to reach. Any further than my destination they won't take. Cuz they want to get back to town asap after each trip as the demand there is high, its not worth for them to accept long trips and waste time coming back to town empty.
Demand was so high that they don't even entertain street hire anymore, they only play with bookings. He even said them drivers are in a chat group to play the system together, like trying to corner the market knn he was so proud of what he's doing.
He said by doing this, he can avg earn at least $80-$100/hr, each weekend night can pull $400-$500 no problem. Half of me empathised with him, knowing them drivers may have been suffering for the past 2 years and now finally can make some dough but the my other half wanna curse and swear at him for playing the system.
