Tsing Yi murder-suicide: 82-year-old kills girlfriend over suspected infidelity before taking own life
Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Tsing Yi, where an 82-year-old man is believed to have killed his 56-year-old girlfriend out of suspicions of infidelity before taking his own life on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 2.29pm on Wednesday (Oct 29), when the elderly man, surnamed Lam, was found dead at the bottom of a slope near a car park next to Hang Chi House, Cheung Hang Estate.
Officers subsequently visited the victim's residence, where they discovered the body of a woman surnamed Chung with head injuries. Investigators noted that Chung had facial lacerations, and a kitchen knife was recovered from the scene.
Notably, a suicide note believed to be written by Lam was retrieved from the living room, claiming that Chung had been unfaithful and had poisoned his food, leading to his high blood pressure and kidney disease.
Describing Chung's behavior as "evil", Lam stated that he killed her out of anger.
However, police confirmed no toxic substances were found on-site to support the poisoning allegations.
It is understood that Lam suffered from delusions but had refused medical treatment.
While reports indicate that the deceased referred to each other as husband and wife, it is later confirmed that they were only a cohabiting couple.
Sources revealed that Lam was a retired pest control company owner who had been divorced for 30 years and had two daughters, while Chung was a warehouse worker who had moved to Hong Kong from Yunnan 20 years ago.
Chung reportedly lived in the unit at Cheung Wang Estate since 2011, with most of her relatives residing in the mainland.
The couple met in 2009 and had been in a relationship for over 15 years, with Lam moving into Chung's residence in 2013.
Following the tragic end to their relationship, relatives from both sides—including Lam's two daughters and Chung's cousin—identified the bodies at Kwai Chung Public Mortuary this morning, with some family members breaking down in tears.
The incident has also left residents in shock, with a neighbor, surnamed Lee, describing the couple's relationship as affectionate and often going out together, stating the incident was completely unexpected.
Lee revealed that Lam enjoyed hiking and swimming in his leisure time, while Chung had only started working two years ago.
Another neighbor, surnamed Wan, noted that he often ran into the couple and described Lam as healthy and cheerful, adding that he had never heard any arguments coming from their home.
